Austria

The Austrian Medical Women Association is shocked about the war in the Ukraine and deeply worried about it. We are in solidarity with all the people suffering from the consequences, specifically with the women and children who lost their homes, their families, – many of them had to leave behind everything, had to leave family members and have no idea if they are going to see their loved ones again. The Austrian Medical Women try to help by donating money and supporting colleagues from the Ukraine who organise help. During the pandemic our Association had not held its annual conference. Although Austria still has a high number of daily new infections, there are no longer restrictions or limits when it comes to conferences or meetings. There is a growing problem for doctors and other medical staff due to many colleagues being ill or in quarantine. We are therefore all struggling with more night shifts than usual and longer working hours. Hopefully the ‘omicron wave’ will be over in May. This is, when we plan to hold the first conference after two and a half years in Vienna. The final decision whether this meeting is going to happen online or in person will be made at the end of March.
