1. On April 13, 2024, the Korean Medical Women’s Association(KMWA) held its 68th Annual General Assembly of Representatives and monthly academic symposium at the Schubert Hall of the President Hotel. It started with the academic symposium. Dr. Jin Ju Kim gave a lecture entitled “Is hormone therapy for women unnecessary?” Another lecture was from Dr. Ji Yeon Kim entitled, “Updates on hormone suppression therapy for breast cancer patients.” The finale was the highlight of the meeting – the farewell and inauguration ceremony, with KMWA’s 31st President Hyon-Wook Baik, and New President Soon Won Hong. The event proceeded with the outgoing president handing over the ‘President’s Medal’ to the new president and the new president presenting the outgoing president with a bouquet of flowers. In her inaugural speech, the new 32nd President, Soon Won Hong, stated, “I will strive to address challenges wisely as a female doctor amidst the current confusion in the South Korean medical community due to policies such as the expansion of medical school quotas.” President Hong also added, “I will ensure that KMWA, which has produced two MWIA presidents, continues to actively engage on the international stage.”
  2. On June 22, 2024, KMWA held the 32nd Executive Committee’s leadership workshop at Myongji Han River Build Well Building in Mapo-gu located in West Seoul. The workshop was led by Dr. Hyung Jung Kim, Director of General Affairs. Members were asked to put on a very bright T-shirt of their choice. The workshop started out sorting teams according to their Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality types. After each group was allocated, each group member was instructed to draw a rough “biography graph” marking the ups and downs throughout their life. The graph was presented to the whole group and was explained by another member who had listened keenly to the member’s biography. This allowed everyone to learn a little more about other committee members, and the biography graph being presented by another member made it more interesting.

For the next game, members had to line up and draw an object on another’s back, and the 5th person guessed what it was. Naturally, no one got it right, but it was quite fun. It represented the importance of communication. For some reason, according to the leader, a ‘squid’ is always a suspected object for every game at all meetings. We Koreans must love squids! After much fun, the workshop ended with a brief executive committee meeting. Of course, everyone was exhausted, so off they went to dinner at the nearby Hangil Bistro.
