Report from Vice President for Southern Europe

Dr. Concetta Laurentaci

Dr. Concetta Laurentaci – MWIA Regional Vice President for Southern Europe

From 3 to 5 October, the G7 of European Ministers for Equal Opportunities was held in Matera. In her role as MWIA Vice-President for Southern Europe, Dr. Concetta Laurentaci was invited to the meeting of health workers to report on what is being done in Italy and in the city of Matera to combat violence against women.

The meeting was organised by the PANGEA Foundation in collaboration with the Women’s Network Protocol of the Matera Municipality, of which the Matera AIDM section has been a partner since 2018. The report dealt with the contents of VIPROM (Victims Protection in Medicine), a European training project on domestic violence, reserved for health workers, which involves Italy together with Austria, Denmark, Greece and Norway.

We were also offered a brief overview of the project involving students in the high schools of the city of Matera, aimed at recognising the signs of violence against women at an early stage and activating the most correct behaviour to combat it.

The opportunity to compare different realities allowed all participants to deepen their knowledge of aspects of violence against women in different countries in order to promote adequate policies to protect victims and prevent violent behaviour.

Stay fine with MWIA!
