Dr. Nelci Zanon Collange MWIA Regional Vice President for Latin America
MWIA Latin America region currently comprises ABMM (Brazilian Medical Women’s Association), Mexico, which has upgraded from an individual member to a National Association, and PAMWA (Pan American Medical Women Alliance, which includes Ecuador and Peru).
ABMM had an online election last July. The new Directory is planning an official ceremony for the end of 2024.
The Mexico and PAMWA team are preparing a Latin American Meeting in Mexico City on November 8 to 9, with the presence of the MWIA President, Eleanor Nwadinobi, and organized by Veronica Clara Rodriguez Torres.
Below is a report of the academic and associated activities up till October 2024.

1.1.2 – ABMM Sao Paulo Section – Directory 2024 – 2026
1.1 First our gratitude to the all the ExCo members led by MWIA president Nwadinobi. MWIA President and Mariam Jashi MWIA Secretary-General participated in more than 20 online meetings, with a lot of work and opening new doors for MWIA.
1.2 Gratitude to Clarissa Fabre for accepting our late MWIA LA update.
1.3 ABMM held quarterly virtual business meetings and monthly academic conferences and discussions related to Health:
1.3.1 Online on 09/25/2024 – UNIMED & ABMM – Symposium on women’s health. Moderators Dr. Fatima Regina Abreu Alves, President of ABMM National 2016 to 2020 and Dr. Ana Lúcia Delbin Villegas, Vice President of Unimed Leste Paulista, 2018-2024. Invited Speakers, members of the ABMM:
– Dr. Natasha Slhessarenko – Analysis of the incidence of early death in female doctors in Brazil, Sao Paulo
– Dr. Sônia Maria Rolim Rosa Lima – Climacteric, preventive aspects
– Dr. Elisabeth Alexandre – Current updates on cardiovascular risk factors in women
1.3.2- Other virtual monthly academic meetings related to women’s health are planned by ABMM under the Sao Paulo section with more extensive topics such as AI and the impact of social media. On October 28 a lecture took place on Breast cancer prevention, with Dr Maria Marcia Martins, Director of the Hospital Santa Casa, with Dr Sonia Rolim, member of the Medical Academy of Sao Paulo as moderator, both ABMM members. 1.4 Dr. Nelci Zanon Collange, current VP LA and ABMM national president met Dr. Amany Asfour in Kofi Ana Center, Accra, Ghana. She had the privilege to participate in the GIMAC Gender session on empowerment of women in Africa on July 14th, 2024. And on October 16, 2024, Dr Zanon was elected Honorary Secretary of the International Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery, ISPN.
1.5 On August 12, Dr Fatima Regina Abreu Alves was one of the invited faculty to deliver the official council registration (Concelho Regional e Medicina) to the new doctors in Sao Paulo, Brazil. There were more women doctors than men! Photo 1.D
1.6 On September 2024, Dr Sonia Maria Rolim Rosa-Lima, in a green cape, received the award of Professor Emeritus at the Santa Casa Hospital, and Scietific Director at ABMM Sao Paulo section. Photo 1B
2.0 Mexico’s Dr Veroncia Clara Rodriguez Torres, PAMWA President and Mexico representative did the best work that can be done transforming an individual MWIA membership to a National Association membership with 50 new members in 2024. As well as the 2023 hybrid Puebla MWIA & PAMWA meeting with the welcome online video recorded by Dr Eleanor Nwadinobi, MWIA president, this year she is doing even better! On 8 to 9 November, she is organizing the XXXIV Congress PAMWA & MWIA Latin America with the honorable presence of the MWIA President Dr Eleanor Nwadinobi. Photo 2.
