AMWA Activities and Highlights:
September:
AMWA co-hosted two side events at the UN General Assembly with NYU and Lehigh University – Voices of Future Generations. These events explored the benefits and risks of technology, AI, and digital education and their connection to peace, security, and gender equality.
AMWA’s Music in Medicine program participated in joint conferences of IAMM and ISfAM in Berlin, Germany.
Dr. Padmini Murthy, AMWA’s Global Health Lead, co-organized an event with Operation Smile to address antimicrobial resistance.

October:
AMWA supported the play Voices from the Silenced: Pre-Roe Abortion Stories in New York City as a fundraiser.
AMWA hosted Protecting Reproductive Care: Ally Voices Matter, discussing how men in medicine and their allies can advance reproductive rights and justice.
AMWA engaged in events promoting women’s health, including the White House Convenings on Women and Aging, the Italian American Heritage Month Reception, and The Next Frontier in Women’s Health.
SeniorFusion, AMWA’s nonprofit initiative, conducted a pilot project titled Hear Well, Age Better. The project assessed hearing improvement among low-income older adults. Results showed that over-the-counter hearing aids significantly enhanced participants’ social satisfaction and overall quality of life.
AMWA’s Breakthrough Women in Science & Medicine Series featured Dr. Rachel Brem, highlighting the importance of breast density in cancer screening.
AMWA’s Healthy Lifestyle Revolution Campaign promoted wellness through tips and social media posts.

November:
AMWA held Virtual Advocacy Days, emphasizing critical healthcare issues and legislative action.

December:
Dr. Mark Shapiro, a TEDx speaker and host of The Explore the Space Show, presented a webinar titled Things I Didn’t Learn in Training About Firearms: What You Need to Know.
The Women in Medicine Lectureship 2024 featured Transforming Healthcare: Celebrating Women in Medicine. This event highlighted women’s contributions to well-being and collective efforts for a healthier future.
AMWA leaders attended the first-ever White House Conference on Women’s Health Research.
AMWA President Dr. Susan Hingle and Executive Director Dr. Eliza Chin represented the organization at the White House’s annual holiday party.

January 2025:
AMWA will promote health equity during the 7th Annual Us vs. HPV Week (January 27-31, 2025). This campaign includes webinars, social media outreach, and local events to educate clinicians and the public about HPV prevention and management.
The initiative collaborates with the Global Initiative Against HPV and Cervical Cancer (GIAHC) and international medical associations.

March 2025:
AMWA announces the 10th Anniversary Sex and Gender Health Education Summit, which will be held alongside the AMWA Annual Meeting and Women in Healthcare World Congress. This event will focus on advancing sex and gender health education.
Early bird registration ends December 31, 2024, with regular rates applicable thereafter.

Advocacy Highlights:
AMWA lobbied for increased government funding for health agencies such as the CDC, NIH, and ORWH.
Executive Director Dr. Eliza Chin joined the Doctors for America FDA Task Force to advocate for funding, transparency, and unbiased oversight.
AMWA supported Congressional efforts to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment and promoted nondiscrimination and LGBTQ+ patient rights.
AMWA filed amicus briefs on EMTALA, mifepristone access, and the Affordable Care Act’s preventive healthcare mandates.
AMWA joined coalitions advocating for obesity care coverage, telehealth access, and climate change measures such as OSHA’s proposed heat injury standards.

AMWA’s Annual Meeting in Boston, MA, will bring MWIA members and healthcare leaders together to advance gender equity and healthcare innovation.
We also eagerly anticipate the MWIA Congress in Egypt in 2025.
