AMWA has had a dynamic first half of 2025, advancing its mission of equity, advocacy, education, and leadership in medicine.
Advocacy & Reproductive Health
AMWA participated in Maternal Health Awareness Day, co-hosted by Rutgers RWJ Medical School, to address critical challenges in maternal care.
Through its Reproductive Health Coalition, AMWA launched a Fellowship Program and training sessions to enhance compassionate conversations around abortion and reproductive care.
AMWA also co-sponsors a narrative-based study on reproductive identity and professional life.
AMWA supported HPV Prevention Week with GIAHC, hosting “Turn Up the HEAT on HPV” to spotlight innovations and equity in cervical cancer prevention.
In partnership with the film At Your Cervix, AMWA promoted ethical gynecologic education during Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Week.
Additional campaigns included awareness for Rare Disease Day, STI prevention, and Osteoporosis education. AMWA expanded its Brain Health Education Hub, launched a new Environment & Health Alliance (HEAL), and offered resources on undocumented patient care.
Annual Meeting and StudioAMWA 10th Anniversary
The 110th AMWA Annual Meeting and Women in Healthcare World Congress (March 28–30) brought together global health leaders to elevate equity, innovation, and well-being. Member CME is available for viewing of recordings.
The event featured the largest cohort of AMWA fellows to date and celebrated StudioAMWA’s 10th anniversary, honoring its contributions to medicine through visual arts.
Education and Leadership Development
AMWA spotlighted its leadership programs at the ACGME conference and launched its June Korn Ferry Physician Leadership Program, offering free coaching.
The Physician Fertility Working Group published an analysis from the SPACE Study on the costs of family building for physicians and trainees.
Equity and History Initiatives
March’s Women’s History Month celebrated AMWA’s WWI legacy through a short film and exhibition.
AMWA issued new position statements reaffirming its commitment to Gender equity in medicine, safety for women physicians, and the rights of lactating and breastfeeding clinicians.
During Wear Orange Weekend, AMWA hosted a webinar on advocacy strategies to address gun violence.
Honoring Academic Achievement
AMWA awarded 512 Glasgow-Rubin Citations to the top 10% of graduating U.S. women medical students, including 43 class valedictorians.
Publications and Media
The AMWA Blog featured topics such as maternal mortality in indigenous communities, rare diseases, endometriosis disparities, and postpartum depression. AMWA’s podcast, GETF continued with its second season.
Financial Wellness and Member Benefits
AMWA partnered with Doc2Doc Lending to support members with access to personal loans and financial literacy tools. A new Pooled Employer Plan (PEP) was introduced to streamline retirement planning.
Global and National Advocacy
AMWA attended the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York City.
AMWA leaders attended events at the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA78) in Geneva.
Domestically, AMWA advocated for NIH funding ($51 billion for FY2026), the Trafficking Survivors Relief Act of 2025, Protection of Medicaid and Title X programs, obesity treatment, and Funding for Alzheimer’s research (via the LEAD Coalition).
