The Greater Accra Regional (GAR) branch of MWAG in collaboration with local and international partners, organized a successful Women’s Health Fair on 16th October 2021, at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. The event which was patronized by over 200 women from all over Accra, provided cervical cancer and breast cancer screening, laboratory services, eye and dental screening, mental health and spiritual upliftment sessions and counselling; painting; fitness and chiropractor services among others.
MWAG GAR also supported an NGO working on Sexual Violence to organize a workshop for tertiary students in Accra on 10th December 2021 on the theme: Speaking Out against sexual violence. The talk highlighted identifying signals of an abuser in an intimate relationship and personal hygiene for young ladies and guys.
MWAG National cloth
This was designed and adopted for use in October 2021. This will be worn nationally on Fridays mostly, and for other MWAG events.
National Women Physicians’ Day
On 8th December 2021, the maiden National Women Physicians’ Day was commemorated in Accra, Ghana in honour of Dr Susan Gyankroma Ofori-Atta, the first female Ghanaian physician who hailed from Kyebi in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, who happened to be the grand-nephew of Dr. Ofori-Atta, together with family members, graced this historic event. The day will be celebrated annually across the country, to honor all female doctors.
The Ladystars Mentorship Program
This was launched to provide standard mentoring to younger colleagues and students. Mentor- mentee pairings have taken place and the process is being monitored. A review will be done after 6-months to seek to improve the process.
Global Health Days
MWAG continues to mark annual Cervical cancer awareness month in January and with support from sponsors continues to do educational campaigns and screening services.
MWAG marked International Women’s Day on 8th March 2022, through different activities including a Symposium on the topic “Managing my Career as a Lady Doctor” for Lady doctors. Menstrual Hygiene Day was marked in a cluster of Basic schools where there was education on menstrual hygiene and distribution of sanitary towels to the school children.
