The WIML #1GIRL/1YEAR Initiative sponsors and educates young females in Lesotho aged between eleven and eighteen years on menstrual hygiene for one year. Launched in September 2024, the initiative is a humanitarian effort to support vulnerable girls in understanding and managing their menstrual cycles. Under the leadership and coordination of the WIML President Dr. Lineo Letlala, the vision includes an aim to end menstrual poverty. Participating female medical doctors and health practitioner colleagues commit themselves to sponsor their beneficiaries by providing free menstrual hygiene materials each month for one year. Sponsors will also spend at least two hours each month supporting and educating their beneficiaries on menstrual hygiene. Beneficiaries identified with medical menstrual disorders will be managed accordingly through the Initiative. Moreover, associated socio-economic challenges among beneficiaries will be addressed under the Initiative. At the end of the year each beneficiary will receive a graduation certificate to acknowledge their participation.
