The AIDM Calendar 2023 (Fig. 1) was put together by the Italian Association of Women Doctors (AIDM) to call attention to gender in health care. The 12 cartoons (one for each month) illustrate, in a simple and easy way, that health and illness are influenced by both sex, i.e., biological differences, and socio-economic and cultural conditions, defined by gender.
Attention to gender in health care ensures that each person receives the best care, further reinforcing the concept of “patient-centeredness” and “personalization of treatment” while respecting sex and gender differences.
This project was carried out with the contribution of Fondazione Cariparma. It is part of the programme of activities of the gender medicine thematic laboratory of the City of Parma, of which AIDM, Local Health Unit Organization, University Hospital, Ordine dei Medici and University of Parma are members. The cartoons were drawn by Gianluca Foglia, aka Fogliazza (fogliazza.blogspot.com).
AIDM continues its activities for the dissemination and application of gender-specific medicine with congresses and meetings held throughout the country – in Terni the AIDM inter regional congress of Central Italy entitled Gender Medicine in Oncology: opportunities and developments; in Ferrara on October 22, the AIDM inter regional congress of Northern Italy entitled DIGITAL MEDICINE AND MEDICAL ART: A CONNUBE IN DEVELOPMENT from artificial intelligence to the metaverse in gender-specific perspective. On November 18-19 the AIDM inter regional congress of Southern Italy was held in Bari. The title was FOCUS ON GENDER SPECIFIC MEDICINE.
