GMWA Meeting with MWIA Secretary General
On March 22, the Georgian Medical Women’s Association (GMWA) led by Prof. Nino Zhvania organized a meeting of GMWA members with Dr. Mariam Jashi, MWIA Secretary General. Dr. Jashi presented to GMWA and MWIA members the new Draft Strategic Framework of the Medical Women’s International Association. The meeting participants expressed high interest in the 3-year strategic vision of the Association and readiness for making their contribution to the attainment of the five Strategic Pillars of MWIA.
Scientific Conference “Actual topics of treatment of internal diseases”
Georgian Medical Women’s Association organized a regional Scientific Practical Conference “Actual topics of treatment of internal diseases” on March 25 in Gori. Doctors from Shida Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti Regions of Georgia – Gori, Kareli, Khashuri, Borjomi, Akhaltsikhi and Surami attended the Conference at the hotel “Gori Inn”. Professors Z. Klimiashvili, M. Buleishvili, N.Zhvania, I.Kurtiashvili, N. Nazhaidze and N. Khunashvili presented insightful reports on various management aspects of arterial hypertension, hyperuricemia associated with ischemic heart disease, modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of sleep apnea syndrome, familial hypercholesterolemia, and importance of krill oil in the prevention and management of different diseases. The reports presented at the conference generated great interest among the audience and many questions were asked.
At the end of the conference, the GMWA President, Prof. Nino Zhvania expressed the willingness to establish a regional branch of GMWA in Shida Kartli and invited the female doctors of the region to join the initiative.
Media Engagement of GMWA
In February 2023 Dr. Nino Zhvania, GMWA President was invited by Georgian Public Broadcasting channel. She spoke about the women’s heart diseases and the necessity to implement special activities for its prevention. Also, Prof. Zhvania was invited by one of the lead TV stations in Georgia to speak about the risks of alcohol use during pregnancies as well as among children. GMWA will continue more active engagement in health promotion and disease prevention initiatives through media.
