NEWBORN BABY HAMPERS

On 1st January 2023, MWAZ Western Chapter, led by Dr Margaret Phiri was at Lewanika General Hospital in Mongu, and gave out hampers which included baby dishes, diapers, baby wipes, Vaseline to vulnerable mothers who delivered babies on New Year’s Day. Two sets of triplets and one set of twins were among the happy recipients. This heartwarming event was witnessed by the Mayor of the town.

LAUNCH OF THE 2ND COHORT OF THE MENTORSHIP PROGRAM ON 18 FEBRUARY 2023

The 2nd cohort of the mentorship program has 30 mentees who were paired to 29 mentors. Mentees include students, junior resident medical officers and interns. The mentors are senior doctors and dental surgeons. The pairs have one on one communication and mentorship sessions/webinars are held bi-weekly.

DONATIONS TO THE FEMALE PATIENTS AT CANCER DISEASES HOSPITAL

On 25th February 2023, MWAZ commemorated cancer awareness month where they started the day with an aerobics session at a local gym and visited the Cancer Diseases Hospital female wards where they donated hampers containing bathing towels, bathing soap, body lotion, toothpaste, bleach, sanitary pads, cotton wool, and toilet paper to female patients. The visit to the hospital brightened up the day for the patients, who were appreciative of the gesture shown toward them.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

On 8th March, 2023, MWAZ commemorated International Women’s Day by participating in discussions relating to issues that affect women and girls in Zambia. Discussions were held physically in meetings as well as on National Television and radio stations. The president and the chairperson of the student Chapter, Dr. Cheswa Vwalika and Dr. Christabel Mbiiza were among the panelists.

COUNTRY LEADERSHIP PROGRAM BY WORLD BANK

Seven members of MWAZ took part in a four-day Country Leadership Program workshop, the main aim of which was to bring country leaders in the health arena together to discuss and advance their own leadership agendas. One of the main goals was to enhance leadership impact in response to specific challenges in an effective sustainable and transformative manner.
