DOCTORS’ BILL: On May 3rd 2023, MWAN National President, Dr. Adekemi Otolorin condemned the bill proposing delay in the full registration of qualified medical and dental doctors by 5 years. She described it as discriminatory, punitive and a bid to take over the function of the professional regulatory body, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE BOY CHILD (MAY 16, 2023): Theme was ‘Boys and Mental Health’. 20 boys from each secondary school were invited to compete in board games and had a debate on the topic ‘Men should be fully involved in childcare and house chores at home’.
INDUCTION OF MWIA PRESIDENT: On May 16, 2023 Dr. Eleanor Nwadinobi was inducted in Abuja into the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame.
WORLD MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY (May 28,2023): MWAN Edo visited an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) camp where over 200 girls were given free pads.
NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING (NEC 4): Held in, Akwa IBom state, 7th-9th June 2023 with the theme ‘Enhancing the Role of Women in Governance and Leadership in the Health Sector’.
MWAN and NATIONAL DENTAL ASSSOCIATION (NDA) WEBINARS: 4 webinars on dental issues relating to women and children such as Pregnancy and Oral Health’ and “Norms and Myths of Tooth Eruption: Birth to Adolescence’. NEC 5 was hosted virtually by Borno state between the 3rd and 4th of August 2023. The meeting theme was ‘Insurgency and Women’s Health: Challenges and Solutions’. The Election Committee was constituted.
COLLABORATIONS WITH INTERNATIONAL NGOS: On July 6 2023 the National Secretary, Dr Gbemisola Daramola represented MWAN at African Women on Board (AWB) in Lagos. On 21st of August, 2023 MWAN representatives led by Dr. Bukola Adesina Adewole attended a 1-day Workshop in Abuja organized by Pathfinder International to seek collaboration to achieve implementation of the National Guidelines for Self Care in Sexual and Reproductive Health in the states.
CANCER WEBINAR (AUGUST 31st, 2023): The theme was ‘Escalating Breast and Cervical Cancer: Risk Assessment and Screening’. The event was chaired by Prof. I. Adewole, former Minister of Health, Nigeria. Presentations were by radiologists, a gynaecologist and a pathologist. MWAN Cancer Fund Raising to help indigent women suffering from cancer of the breast and cervix was flagged off.
