Menstrual Hygiene Day

In May 2024, MWAG partnered with Lexta, Ghana’s producers of Yazz sanitary pads, to give girls free pads and provide menstrual hygiene education.

Members of the Greater Accra, Eastern, Western, Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Northern Regions of Ghana engaged in interactive sessions with students across various schools in their respective regions. Educational sessions centred on puberty, the menstrual cycle and the changes in adolescent boys and girls. Pupils were reminded of how to practice menstrual hygiene and the benefits of doing so. The pupils were taught which materials were appropriate for menstruation, encouraged to change sanitary pads at least three times a day, and advised to bathe at least twice daily and dispose of used pads hygienically. The boys were implored to support the girls during their menstrual periods. About 1200 girls received free sanitary pads across the regions. MWAG members in the Ashanti and Western Regions were also on some radio stations to educate the populace on menstrual hygiene.
