Report from Vice President for Southern Europe

Dr. Concetta Laurentaci

Dr. Concetta Laurentaci – MWIA Regional Vice President for Southern Europe

Dear Colleagues,

In these last three months some important events have taken place in Italy, that involved myself, other italian colleagues from many italian regions and some prestigious speakers from other European countries.

In 26-28 April, the National Congress of Women Physicians, with the theme “Healing the heart and preserving the brain” was held in Parma-Italy. The congress focused on cardiovascular and brain diseases from a gender-specific perspective and highlighted knowledge of sex and gender-specific differences in pathologies such as acute coronary syndrome, heart failure, neurodegenerative and cerebrovascular diseases. Fig.1 shows some speakers at the Parma Congress.

On 5th May, the whole world participated in WHO’s annual hand hygiene awareness initiative. Some Italian regions involved elementary school children by explaining to them the importance of regular hand washing to prevent the spread of infections. The children’s response was excellent and full of enthusiasm.

In June I participated as a speaker at several conferences in Southern Italy, specifically in Catanzaro and Lamezia, which addressed gender issues related to Neuroinflammation and Neurological Diseases, with excellent attendance by physicians.

Stay fine with MWIA!
