After a long summer, the fall has arrived in Sweden with all its beautiful colors. KLF´s main focus right now is planning our annual fall meeting for our members, which this year will be about loyalty at work as a physician. There has been some questionable firing of physicians in Sweden lately which has received a lot of attention, and we are hoping to highlight the reasons behind these, with legal, moral, and ethical approach to what the word ‘loyalty’ means to us.

Our chair Sofia has given a lecture at one of the medical schools in Sweden about gender equality in healthcare and we are hoping to keep involvement like this with more medical schools around the country.

Two of our board members met with the chair of the Swedish Medical Association and discussed the salary gap between female and male physicians, the reasons behind this and how we can work together for this to disappear. There have been discussions within the board for a long time on this subject. We are hoping to make a new investigation about this emphasizing the reasons for the salary gaps, for example that female dominant specialties are still generally lower paid than male dominant specialties, that female physicians tend to work part time to a greater extent, take longer parental leave leading to more years out of their specialties etc.

Our international representative Ebba met with Dr Ashna Basu, chair of yMWIA, during a visit to Sydney earlier this fall. It was a good opportunity to share and learn about the similar experiences and challenges we face as young female physicians.
