Report from Vice President for Southern Europe

Dr. Concetta Laurentaci

Dr. Concetta Laurentaci – MWIA Regional Vice President for Southern Europe

Dear all,

On 30 November, the Elective Assembly of the Italian Association of Women Physicians was held in Rome, where I was elected as the new National President. I am truly honoured and happy to be able to represent for the next three years a scientific society committed both to the dissemination and application of gender medicine and to combating violence against women.

There will certainly be a lot of work to be done in order to stimulate again the colleagues from other countries in Southern Europe to participate again in our many activities.

On 25 November, I took part in a meeting organised by Soroptimist International on Gender Violence and Assisted Violence, which involved numerous institutional authorities (Police Headquarters, Prefecture, Social Services of the Municipality of Matera) in an effective network of interventions to combat violence against women. The well-attended conference addressed the different aspects of violence against women and the terrible consequences for children who witness violence. In particular, an interesting book was presented that uses colours to address the various aspects of gender-based violence and related trauma.

Stay fine with MWIA!
