1. The Korean Medical Women‘s Association (KMWA) held its Monthly Academic Symposium on Oct. 10, 2024, at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital. Professor Sang Bae Lee from the Department of Endocrinology at Kangdong Sacred Heart Hospital gave the first lecture, “Latest Perspectives on Diabetes Treatment.” Professor Hye Sun Park from the Department of Endocrinology at Gangnam Severance Hospital delivered the second lecture titled “Diagnosis and Treatment of Osteoporosis.” The seminar was highly engaging, with many senior doctors actively participating and raising important questions about the high risks associated with both diseases. This thoughtful dialogue after each lecture contributed to a deeper understanding of the topics presented.
2. On Nov. 11, 2024, the Korean Medical Women’s Association (KMWA) held the 3rd Young Women Doctor Literary Awards 2024 at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital’s Conference Hall. This year’s ceremony was named “An Ode to Young Doctors” since the award is given to women doctors under 39 years of age and medical students. The grand prize went to Dr. A-yeon Lee, who wrote the poem “While Shucking Clams.” It was about finding a sense of self-worth amidst the resignation of residents following our government’s sudden increase in medical school quotas. Professor Gabrielle Casper, the 2nd Kyung Ah Park Award recipient, participated and congratulated the winners online via Zoom. The November Monthly Academic Symposium preceded the ceremony with a lecture on “Paradigm Shift in Osteoporosis Treatment: Goal-Oriented Osteoporosis Management.” The lecture was succeeded by a compelling lecture titled “Patient Blood Management in Individuals Receiving High-Dose Intravenous Iron Therapy.”
