AMWA advanced global collaboration, equity, education, and leadership in women’s health through a series of high-impact initiatives from July 2025 through January 2026.

Global Advocacy and United Nations Engagement
During the 2025 United Nations General Assembly in New York City, AMWA co-hosted two side events addressing health equity for women focusing on: (1) advancing equitable care for women and people with congenital conditions affected by non-communicable diseases (NCDs and (2) sepsis and women.

Women’s Health
In October and November AMWA’s Breakthrough: Women in Science & Medicine series reached a national audience through a PBS-featured episode featuring Dr. Carey Anders, highlighting her innovative breast cancer research and Dr. Fatima Cody Stanford, featuring her groundbreaking advocacy for obesity care. In November, AMWA participated in the inaugural in-person convening of the Milken Institute Women’s Health Network, chaired by former First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, bringing together cross-sector leaders to accelerate innovation and investment in women’s health. In December, AMWA co-launched the Respiratory Antiviral Alliance, a multi-stakeholder collaboration focused on equitable access to antiviral treatments for older adults and individuals with chronic conditions. At the end of January, AMWA will cohost the 8th Annual HPV Prevention Week to convene stakeholders in the fight against HPV and related diseases. Throughout the year, AMWA also led educational campaigns focused on breast cancer, menopause, domestic violence prevention, migraines, and eczema care.

MWIA Congress and International Collaboration
AMWA was thrilled to help plan several sessions at the MWIA Congress on women’s health, art in medicine (highlighting ten years of Studio AMWA’s work), and gender equity in surgery with a screening of 1001 Cuts, a documentary by Dr. Sarah Temkin that highlights challenges faced by women surgeons worldwide.

National Leadership and Strategic Partnerships
AMWA delegates participated in the 2025 American Medical Association Interim Meeting and House of Delegates meeting.
