The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of MWAZ was successfully held on 7th November 2025 under the theme: “Building Capacity and Driving Impact: Transforming Healthcare through Leadership, Innovation and Research.”
The AGM brought together members and stakeholders to review progress, share knowledge, conduct leadership elections, and celebrate mentorship achievements.
The meeting was enriched by keynote presentations from distinguished speakers:
• Ms. Mizinga Melu, Chief Executive Officer of ABSA Bank, who emphasized the importance of personal branding and developing a strong individual identity as a foundation for effective leadership.
• Professor Nkandu Luo, who highlighted the principles of true leadership, underscoring integrity, service, and purpose-driven leadership as essential in transforming healthcare systems.
The election of Office Bearers was conducted in accordance with the association’s constitution, resulting in the appointment of the following office bearers:
• President: Dr Joyce Sakala
• Vice President: Dr Jane MWAMBA Mumba
• Secretary General: Dr Mukwenda Mutemwa
• Publicity Secretary: Dr Sheila Mwanamwampula
• Treasurer: Dr Nelly Chawezi Nawakwi

• Dr Elisa Mayondi
• Dr Christabel Namukonde
• Dr Lowenji Nhlane
Mentorship Programme Graduation
A total of 30 participants graduated during the AGM, comprising 15 mentors and 15 mentees.
Key Highlights:
• Mentees demonstrated significant growth across professional, personal, and leadership domains through structured guidance and mentorship support.
• Participants gained practical career advice, enhanced confidence, and improved communication skills.
• Mentees were inspired by mentors who have successfully broken professional barriers while maintaining work–life balance.
• The Medical Women’s Association of Zambia (MWAZ) reaffirmed that medicine is an apprenticeship, emphasizing the importance of passing on knowledge, values, and experience.
• Graduating mentees were encouraged to move it forward by continuing the mentorship tradition within the association.
