On June 10, 2026, a Board meeting was held to continue with the planned activities. Dr. Guillermina Yong presented the activities and provided an update on their progress.
Subsequently, the scientific update session began. The lecture was delivered by Alliance Member Dr. Miluska Unamuno, an obstetrician-gynecologist, who discussed gynecological consultations in girls and adolescents, highlighting their importance for overall health and explaining how developmental stages influence medical care, diagnosis, and clinical management.
Gynecological consultations at an early age have a significant impact on a woman's future health. It is recommended that the first gynecological consultation takes place before the onset of menstruation, in order to promote the prevention and early detection of potential health conditions. During childhood, care should be sensitive and should take into account family and psychosocial factors. During adolescence, gynecological consultations provide an opportunity to support girls through the physical and emotional changes characteristic of this stage, while promoting healthy habits and education regarding sexual and reproductive health.
The most common reasons for consultation include menstrual cycle abnormalities, routine gynecological check-ups, and vulvovaginitis.
In conclusion, gynecological care for girls and adolescents is essential not only from a clinical perspective but also as a tool for prevention, education, and support during key stages of development.
