The Women in Medicine in Ireland Network (WiMIN) is preparing for its annual conference, which will be held in Limerick city on Saturday 7th October, 2023, from 10am to 5pm IST. Our theme for the conference is “Challenging Conversations”, and we will be discussing some areas of medical communication which can be difficult. We will cover topics such as diagnostic bias, domestic violence, patient complaints, and the use of social media by physicians. We will also have a student-run session, where the medical students will be asking the hard questions! As with all WiMIN conferences, we will be offering free on-site childcare and baby-feeding facilities. We do not accept pharmaceutical funding, and we aim to keep our events sustainable and environmentally-friendly. The conference will be a hybrid event and we invite all our international colleagues to join us online. If you would like to register your interest in attending, please contact us at hello@wimin.ie

Earlier this year, we hosted an online careers workshop for medical students and early-career doctors, with representatives from the postgraduate training bodies and an executive coach who gave helpful tips and tricks for those applying for training schemes.

Our founder, Dr Sarah Fitzgibbon, participated in a panel discussion on “Networking with Purpose” at the Grit Female Leaders in Healthcare Summit, which brought together women working in healthcare and life science industries, female founders, investors, public sector, academia and industry.

WiMIN will also be represented at the 50th anniversary celebrations of the National Women’s Council of Ireland, of which it is a member organisation, at a Garden Party hosted by the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins.
