Report from Vice President for Southern Europe
At the end of June, the Southern Europe area participated, in the person of the vice-President, in an interesting webinar organised by the Climate and Health SIG, entitled ‘FROM SCIENCE TO ACTION – The role of Medical Women’s International Association in Climate Change and Health’, dedicated to the impact of climate change on the health of populations. The speech highlighted some terrible consequences on health of the floods that had hit some Italian regions, suggesting some possible corrective measures to the health organisation to better protect the most fragile sections of the population (pregnant women, children and the elderly).
From 29 September to 1 October, the fifth edition of the Susan Komen Race for the Cure, for the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, was held in Matera. The event included numerous prevention and information activities for the population, social moments dedicated to women in pink, and an educational event on the complex puzzle of the most innovative breast cancer treatments. The vice-president of MWIA Southern Europe presented a report on the rehabilitation pathway dedicated to the cancer patient for early care and appropriate management of disease outcomes. At the end of the event, a colourful and festive procession of 5,000 people marched through the streets of ancient Matera to celebrate life, even and especially after a painful illness.
Stay fine with MWIA!
